NEMSA GIMMER LAMBS

The much-anticipated Annual Show and Sale of mule gimmer lambs on behalf of the Kendal NEMSA branch was once again a success with buyers in attendance from all corners of the country keen to secure lambs of all classes and types.
A buoyant trade was seen throughout the sale with strong tupping lambs sell above last years prices, nice type runners and small tuppers were easily sold with only the smallest lesser quality lambs in line with last year’s prices.
Friday night saw 400 top quality lambs out for the prestigious show which were put before this year’s judges Richard Haynes and James Towler who we must thank for their time and expertise.
The annual ‘Stars in your eyes’ show of individual mule lambs was kindly judged by Duncan Burton who we also thank for making the trip north. These sold to a top of £550 from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans with a lamb from AC & K Pye, Dunkenshaw kindly selling for charity at £500 and £450 whilst the champion from AJ & RE Marston, Easgill Head sold for £400.
Saturday sale saw a top price of £500 for the first prize pen of 10 from Bob Lawrence, Greaves Farm who also sold another pen of 10 at £300. Congratulations must go to Bob and Emma on being awarded the Bruce Willison Memorial Shield for the best run of lambs which this year was kindly judged by Ian Lancaster.
Next at £320 was a much-admired pen from RI Dixon, Low Newton with pens at £300 from D Sharp, Flodder Hall and P & A Fell, Castle Hill. Numerous pens hit £270 from T Ayrton & Son, Yates Farm, TA & JA Dixon, Yoad Pot, RH & C Ayrton, Ouzelthorn and twice from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans and Rydal Farm.
Many running lambs in the offering resulted in a sale average of £154.77 which was an increase of £3 on the year for 600 more sold. Thanks must go to all sale sponsors, vendors and buyers for once again making this a great sale.
